Our Story
Our Story & Promise
No middlemen. No exploitation. We partner with India's small producers, artisan cooperatives, and government-backed producer groups — paying prices that reflect the real cost of living, not the commodity market.
The Uncomfortable Truth
"A Kanjivaram saree takes weeks to weave and sells for ₹25,000–₹50,000. The weaver earns ₹7,000 for that same month of work."
— IHD-CCI Study on Artisan Incomes, India
₹270
Average daily wage of an Indian artisan
Below minimum wage in every state
66%
Of handloom weavers earn under ₹5,000 / month
4th All India Handloom Census, 2020
823
GI-tagged products registered in India

Living Wage Pricing Model
The "market price" for handmade goods is set by aggregators who bargain producers down to the absolute minimum. We reject that model.
Our prices are calculated from the cost of dignified living in the producer's region — housing, food, healthcare, children's education, and reasonable savings — then raw material and fair margin are added on top. Not the other way around.
We share our price calculation with every producer before agreeing terms
Payment within 15 days of dispatch — not 60–90 day credit
Multi-season purchase commitments, not spot buying
How we build a price
Living wage floor
Regional living cost data for the producer's district — not national average
Raw material cost
Actual input costs verified with the producer, not industry estimates
Skill premium
GI-certified craft commands a premium over generic commodity goods
Time and overhead
Full production time and cooperative operating costs factored in
Our Starting Point
India's 823 registered GI products span 28 states and 8 union territories — centuries of craft, agriculture, and geographic heritage. We don't rush to catalogue all of them. We begin with five products we can verify completely, source ethically, and stand behind without qualification.

Our Supplier Ecosystem
India's GI ecosystem spans far beyond the individual craftsperson. We work across all four supplier categories recognised under the GI registration framework.
Individual & SHG Artisans
Master Craftspeople & Self-Help Groups
Weavers, potters, woodcarvers, and metal casters — individually or in Self-Help Groups. We source directly, eliminating the contractor who typically takes 30–50% of the value.
↳ Kanjivaram weavers (TN) · Madhubani painters (Bihar) · Bidriware craftsmen (Karnataka)
Government Cooperatives
State Khadi & Handloom Boards
India's state-run Khadi Boards, Handloom Corporations, and cooperatives are often the registered GI applicants for entire product categories. They ensure welfare standards and pass income directly to members.
↳ West Bengal Khadi & VIB · KSRTC Karnataka · Tamil Nadu Handloom Corp.
Farmer & Producer Organisations
FPOs, Producer Companies & Federations
Farmer Producer Organisations aggregate small-scale growers of GI-tagged products — Darjeeling tea, Araku coffee — giving smallholders collective bargaining power and eliminating local intermediaries.
↳ Darjeeling Tea FPO · Araku Coffee Cooperative · Spices Board groups
Small & Medium Producers
Small Manufacturers & Family Enterprises
Many GI products come from small family workshops employing 5–20 people. We give them direct market access at prices that cover real production costs — not just raw material.
↳ Jaipur blue pottery workshops · Agra marble inlay studios · Surat zari weavers
Our Commitments
Five principles that govern every sourcing decision, every price negotiation, every product we list.
No Middlemen
Every rupee goes closer to the maker. We eliminate aggregators and contractors who extract value without contributing to production.
Living Wage Pricing
Prices cover dignified living costs in the producer's region — not benchmarked against the cheapest competitor or commodity market rate.
GI Integrity
Every product is sourced from within the GI-demarcated zone, from registered authorised users only. We verify every tag against the DPIIT GI Registry.
Long-Term Relationships
We commit to repeat purchase agreements. Producers can plan production, invest in quality, and build stable livelihoods instead of living order-to-order.
Radical Transparency
We publish our sourcing regions, producer types, and fair-price methodology. If we can't explain where something comes from, we don't sell it.
Understanding GI Tags
A Geographical Indication tag is granted under the Geographical Indications of Goods Act, 1999 by the DPIIT. It certifies genuine origin and qualities uniquely attributable to that geography.
Unlike brand certifications that producers can pay their way into, a GI tag requires years of documentation, government scrutiny, and geographic proof. It cannot be faked — and cannot be transferred to a product made elsewhere.
01
Origin Locked
Must be made within the specific geographic area named in the tag. A "Darjeeling Tea" grown in Assam is illegal misrepresentation.
02
Quality from Place
Unique characteristics must arise from geography — soil, climate, altitude, or the traditional methods of that specific region.
03
Community Protected
GIs are registered to cooperatives or government bodies — not individuals. This structurally protects the entire community that developed the product.
04
Legal Against Counterfeits
Selling a counterfeit GI product is a criminal offence under Indian law. When you buy from us, you are protected from fakes.
Every Purchase Is a Vote
Not a token amount. Not below minimum wage. A fair price, paid promptly, for work that carries generations of knowledge.
